Introduction to Modern Pentathlon

The combination of five completely different sports constitutes Modern Pentathlon, the most demanding sport of the Olympic Games. Pentathletes compete in the course of one day, in the following five disciplines: Shooting, Fencing, Swimming, Riding, and Cross-country running. Modern Pentathlon men and women athletes need to have strength, endurance, quick reflexes and concentration, in order to meet the high demands of the sport. Modern Pentathlon format changes for London

The format of the Modern Pentathlon is to be changed for London 2012 after the sport's governing body voted to combine the disciplines of shooting and running into one event.

The Modern Pentathlon Association of Ireland was rewarded for the enormous success of the Youth B European Championships held in Dublin in July 2008, with an award from the Modern Pentathlon International Governing Body, UIPM at the World Congress in Guatemala.
