Olympic Village Environment

Ever since London won the bid to host the Olympic Games the needs of the athletes were placed at the heart of Games planning for LOCOG. The OCI and other NOC’s have worked hard to ensure the village environment is such that the athletes and support staff can perform to the best of their abilities.

The OCI have engaged with its athletes commission to the extent that commission member Richard Archilbald ( former Olympic rower) came to London with the team leader delegation inMarch 2012 to view the proposed slot for Ireland within the village, and thats exactly we’re Ireland have been located. 470 metres to main dining and 520 to the transposition mall.

The OCI are one of the first to arrive to set up their Olympic Games operations.

Hannah Craig and Eoin Rheinisch are the first athletes to arrive this evening at the Village accreditation Centre but they will head straight up to the Olympic Council canoe slalom apartments to resume training at the Olympic Canoe Centre in Broxbourne.

Clay Pigeon shooter Derek Burnett and Team leader Kevin Kilty will be the first athlete and sports performance staff member  to stay in the village when it officially opens tomorrow 16th July.
