Pat Hickey visits Armenia with IOC President

President Pat Hickey is in Armenia today with IOC President – Thomas Bach along with other IOC delegates. They attended the Opening Ceremony of a monument of Hrant Shahinyan the first Armenian Olympic Champion (Gymnastics). The momument of Hrant Shahinyan is made of stone basalt and weighs 31 tons. Hrant Shahinyan was a two time Olympic Champion, he won two gold medals and two silver medals in Gymnastics at the 1952 Summer Olympic Games in Helsinki and was also two time World Champion.

The delegation then met with the Armenian President, Serzh Sargsyan, and Pat Hickey presented the preparations for the European Games in Baku, Azerbaijan in 2015. IOC President Thomas Bach assured Armenia’s President that the IOC and the EOC will do their best for Armenia and will create the necessary conditions for Armenian athletes and their coaches. The delegation visited the new headquarters of the National Olympic Committee of Armenia as well as the Olympic Sports Complex. They had an official meeting with Mr Gagik Tsarukyan, President of NOC of Armenia and discussed Armenia’s participation in the European Games in Baku 2015.
