Peter Banks Hall of Fame Award

Congratulations to Swim Ireland National Performance Director Peter Banks who has been inducted into the American Swim Coaches Association (ASCA) Hall of Fame.

 

Peter Banks was appointed as Swim Ireland High Performance Director in May 2009. He moved from Ireland to Florida in 1989 to further his career and is one of the most experienced and well respected swimming coaches and leaders, not only in the United States but throughout the world.

He has coached age-group, National, International and Olympic swimmers including American swimmers Brooke Bennett, winner of three individual Olympic Gold Medals (1996 Atlanta and 2000 Sydney) and Maritza Correia, silver medalist as part of the USA Women’s 4x100m Freestyle Team Relay (2004 Athens).

Peter has also held the position of Director of Club Development for the American Swim Coaches Association (ASCA), from 2001 – 2004.

 

In 2000, he was appointed as the USA Head Women’s Coach for the World Short Course Championships in Greece and as USA Assistant Women’s Coach for the Sydney Olympic Games. In this year also, he was awarded ASCA Swim Coach of the Year.

Speaking on his induction Peter said “I am thrilled to be inducted to the Hall Of Fame and I want thank ASCA for this great honour”.

Induction into the Hall of Fame took place at the ASCA Annual Banquet at the World Clinic, last night in the city of Cleaveland, Ohio.

Coach Peter Banks – (currently National Team Director – Ireland) – Coached Brooke Bennett to 3 Olympic Gold Medals from Brandon Blue Wave, Florida.
