Rio 2016 Team Ireland Visit

The Olympic Council of Ireland will take a small Team Ireland delegation to Rio in early August.

The visit will include Rio 2016 sport competition manager meetings and an opportunity to visit sports specific venue sites. The delegation will be led by Chef de Mission Kevin Kilty and Stephen Martin and include Billy Walsh (Boxing) Richard Vaughan (Badminton) Karl Dunne(Canoeing) Brian Nugent (Cycling) and Eanna Baily (Modern Pentathlon).

Whilst in Rio the Olympic Council delegation will meet colleagues at the Brazilian National Olympic Committee to gather further intelligence to assist with Rio 2016 operations and also observe the Rio 2016 Sailing Test event.

The OCI have also facilitated a meeting with Billy Walsh and the Brazilian Boxing Federation in Sao Paulo to discuss potential training opportunities in Brazil over the next few years.

The delegation will visit Uberlandia , the proposed Team Ireland multi sport training base,  to finalise agreements for accommodation, transport, and sports facilities.
