Women’s Golf Stroke Play:
Leona Maguire, Round 1: 74 (T44)
Leona Maguire went through her opening front nine in 36, with a birdie at the first and bogies at the second and sixth holes.
A double bogie at the tenth proved a major setback and she dropped back to +5 at the 15th before a fine birdie at 16 helped her back to +3 for the day in a tie for 48th.
Maguire is one of only three amateurs in the field of 60 golfers. Her fellow amateurs Albane Valenzuela (SUI) and Tiffany Chan (HKG) finished the day on level par.
Stephanie Meadow, Round1: 77 (T51)
Stephanie Meadow had a difficult start to her Olympic campaign with bogies at the first and second before stabilising with a par on three.
She birdied the fifth to go out in 36 but, like Maguire, had a double bogie at the 10th.
Further dropped shots at 12, 14, and 15 saw her get around in +6, 11 shots behind leader Inbee Park (KOR) on -5.
