Scott Evans Takes Control

Scott Evans got his European Games badminton off to a flying start by taking just 24 minutes to beat Greece’s Georgios Charalambidis 21-7, 21-9.

Evans, who is the top-ranked player competing in Baku is top of group A having won his first of three games – the top two progressing to the last 16. He will meet Belgium’s Yuhan Tan today.

Good news also for Chloe Magee and Sam Magee who got their mixed doubles campaign off to a winning start, beating Czech pair Jakub Bitman and Alzbeta Basova 21-11, 19-21, 21-14.

Magee didn’t fare so well in the singles, losing 21-18, 21-17 to Estonia’s Katie Tolmoff.

Joshua and Sam Magee were beaten in their opening encounter in the men’s doubles, going down 21-17, 21-16 to Danish pair Mathias Boe and Carsten Mogensen.

There was also disappointment though for Rachael Darragh and Sara Boyle, who lost 21-15, 21-15 to Finnish pair Mathilda Lindholm and Jenny Nystrom.
