Scott Evans and the mixed doubles pairing of Chloe Magee and Sam Magee both went out to the eventual winners in the the semi-finals of the Finland Open in Vantaa yesterday (Sat).
Evans, No 7 seed in the men’s singles, lost the opening game of his quarter-final match against the unseeded Dane Rasmus Fladberg, 21-23, but quickly recovered to win the match. In the semi-finals, he faced another Dane, Emil Holst and lost in two games. Holst went on to win the title.
In the mixed doubles, Sam and Chloe Magee, who were seeded at No 3, had made the semi-finals after beating Russian pair Anatoliy Yartsev and Evgeniya Kosetskayo 21-11, 23-21. They lost to No 1 seeds Anders Skarup Rasmussen and Lina Grebek in the semi-finals.
Earlier, the men’s doubles pairing of Sam Magee and Jonathan Dolan did well to make the quarter-finals of the men’s doubles. There they lost to Frederik Colberg and Mikkel Mikkellsen of Denmark in a closely-fought match.
