Silver Medal for Robert Hendrick

Robert Hendrick just missed out on Gold this morning in the C1 men’s Canoe final, but can be very proud of a hard fought silver medal. Only 0.08 secs separated the pair.

After winning his semi-final comfortably, Hendrick was up against the much-fancied French paddler Lucas Roisin.

Speaking after the event, Hendrick said: “I gave it everything I had. I am delighted to have taken a silver medal. My training this year has been geared towards peaking at Nanjing, this is a dream come true.”

Karl Dunne of Canoeing Ireland commented: “Canoeing Ireland are delighted for Robert.

“This Youth Olympic medal, added to the silver medal won by Liam Jegou at the Junior World Championships, has capped off a great year for our junior slalom athletes and will inspire them to more success in the coming years.”
