Silver medals for Pentathlon Ireland

Two of our Pentathletes, Mike Healy and Kate Coleman, won silver medals in the Mixed Relay in UIPM’s World Cup 3 in Hungary at the weekend and one of our Olympians, Arthur Lanigan O’Keeffe came 8th in the Men’s individual competition.

In the Mixed Relay competition, Kate and Mike started with a strong swim coming 3rd overall. A steady performance in the fencing competition moved them up to 5th place. They won the show jumping phase with double clear rounds and the highest score of the day incurring just 5 time penalties, moving them up to 3rd place. With the final combined Run / Shoot phase remaining, the pair kept their cool for the shoot and ran their way into 2nd place taking silver medals.

Their success is documented on the UIPM website

A truly fantastic result as this is the 1st Irish medal for both Athletes and even more impressive it was Mike’s 1st senior competition, Mike still has 1 more year at junior age group.

The athletes have 2 weeks of training now before heading to the next World Cup in Bulgaria on 22nd May.

The future looks bright for Pentathlon Ireland.
