Ireland’s Antoinette Neamt has added 400m Freestyle Silver to the 800m Bronze medal she won yesterday at the European Youth Olympics in Tbilisi, Georgia.
Neamt put in an impressive performance in this afternoon’s Final in an exciting race with Hungary’s Ajna Kesely. There was less than a second separating the two through the whole 400 metres with Kesely, the 800m Gold medallist, eventually getting the touch in 4:15.65 ahead of Neamt who claimed her second medal of the Games in 4 minutes 16.61 seconds.
The new personal best time for the 14 year old is also inside the qualification time for the 2016 European Swimming Championships in London.
Neamt’s team mate at Tallaght SC and the Swim Ireland Performance Centre at the National Aquatic Centre Niamh Coyne swam her best 100m Breaststroke time to date to secure her place in tomorrow’s Final. Coyne progressed comfortably from the morning heats of the event in 1:13.63 but swam huge personal best in the semi-final of 1:12.75 to make the Final in 6th place.
Also competing today Rebecca Reid swam her third lifetime best of the week in the 200m Individual Medley clocking 2:25.75 with Ellen Walshe just behind in 2:27.66 while Emma Moloney swam the 100m Breaststroke heats in 1:15.57.
Three Irish swimmers and a relay are in action on the penultimate day of competition in Tbilisi. Ellen Walshe and Rebecca Reid will both swim the 100m Butterfly, Walshe is currently ranked in 5th place and will be confident of making the semi-finals. Robbie Powell returns to the pool for the 100m Freestyle heats.
