Water Polo
About Water Polo
Water polo was among the sports Ireland competed in at its very first Games as an independent nation, Paris 1924, and again in 1928.
At the Olympics, water polo is a seven-a-side team sport played in a pool, combining swimming, wrestling-style physicality and a handball-like scoring format, with teams competing to throw the ball into the opposing goal across four quarters. Ireland has not returned to Olympic water polo competition since 1928.
