19 July 2016 – Dublin, Ireland: The Olympic Council of Ireland (OCI) and The Confederation of Golf in Ireland (CGI) are today pleased to confirm that Stephanie Meadow has been chosen to represent Team Ireland at the Rio 2016 Olympic Games.
Stephanie Meadow, from Jordanstown, becomes the fourth golfer competing for Team Ireland at Rio 2016, joining Padraig Harrington, Seamus Power and Leona Maguire.
CGI Chairman Redmond O’Donoghue said:
“It is wonderful for Irish golf that we will now have four Olympians at Rio. I’m delighted that Stephanie has made it into the field and wish her well for the Games.”
OCI Secretary General Dermot Henihan said:
“We are delighted to confirm that Stephanie, who finished third in the US Women’s Open in 2014, will compete alongside three other golfers in Brazil. We now have two golfers in the women’s event, which is a great boost for Team Ireland.”
Today’s announcement brings the total number of selected athletes for Rio 2016 to 77 from 13 sports.
