STRONG PERFORMANCE FROM REIDY IN ARCHERY ON OPENING DAY OF EUROPEAN GAMES

Archer Maeve Reidy was the sole Team Ireland athlete competing at the European Games in Minsk today. The Dubliner finished 29 out of 48 in the Preliminary Rounds of Women’s Recurve Individual, putting her in a solid position as she advances to the Elimination Rounds 1/32 on the 25 June. This was the first day of competition in the European Games which run from the 21-30 June.

The Preliminary Rounds started well for Reidy, with her climbing as his as 16th place by the halfway point, performing better than she had in two years,

“I’m really happy with how that went today. It’s been a long day and the heat was tough. The wind picked up a bit, and the heat picked up as well, so it was a bit trickier, I think it was affecting everyone, so I was happy with how I performed. We will have a few days training here and our matches on Tuesday.”

The Opening Ceremony takes place in the Dinamo Stadium tonight at 18:00 Irish time. Team Ireland will be represented by 63 athletes across nine sports, including many of the top names in Irish sport, such as boxer Kellie Harrington, cyclist Ryan Mullen and Canoe Sprint racer Jenny Egan.

The European Games take place in Minsk, Belarus, from the 21 – 30 June, with athletes competing across nine sports, five of which are part of the Tokyo 2020 qualification journey.
