Swimming Nationals

The spotlight will be on the Lagan Valley Leisureplex, Lisburn this weekend for the Irish National Short Course Swimming Championships, which take place from Friday 16 – Sunday 18 December.
 
 
A total of 50 teams will be in action in Lisburn this weekend, including swimmers from Brazil and from the Netherlands as well as Irish clubs representing all four provinces.
 
 
Olympic qualifier Barry Murphy, who missed the European SC Championships last week due to illness, kicks off day one’s swimming (Friday) at 09:30 with the men’s 50m breaststroke event, Murphy will also compete in the 100m butterfly and 100m individual medley. Session one also features 2011 World Championship team member and European Junior Champion Sycerika McMahon (100m breaststroke, 200m butterfly and 200m IM). Other names to watch out for in the pool this weekend are Jane Roberts and Niamh O’Sullivan who competed well at the European SC Championships recently, NAC High Performance Centre swimmers Niall Wynn and Karl Burdis.
 
Lisburn City Council has provided significant support for this event and they are delighted to be providing such an excellent facility for the National Championships.
 
 
In Atlanta, Grainne Murphy will compete in the 2011 Mutual of Omaha Duel in the Pool, as Europe’s top swimmers face off against the USA.  Murphy will be swimming tomorrow (Friday) in the 400m freestyle and Saturday in the 800m freestyle and 200m individual medley.
