Taekwondo Medals for Ireland

Irish athlete Jack Woolley has taken a Bronze medal at the prestigious world ranking Taekwondo Championships in Florida.

Woolley, a native of Tallaght in Dublin, turns 17 in September and as such is eligible to compete at junior and senior level this year.
The US open was his first competition as a senior on the road to the Rio Olympics 2016; he successfully overcame Brazil in the first round.

This set him up with a meeting with the USA in round two which he dispatched with a score of 17-16 setting up a quarter final encounter with Germany where he went on to win with an impressive 18-6 victory.

In a close semi final, he lost out to Japan by 13 points to 7.
On day two Jack competed in the junior division which saw him have convincing victories over USA 13-9 in the first encounter and USA again 16-2 in the second round.

Jack advanced to the quarter finals where he met another USA opponent which he quickly despatched with an amazing 16-4 score.
Onto the Semi Final which again pitted Jack against a home grown USA opponent whom he overcame with an impressive 30-18 points victory.The Final saw him up against USA National team player David Kim where he was narrowly defeated 13-9.

Jack Woolley has gained valuable ranking points over the weekend with the aim to gain a place at the Olympic qualification tournament for Rio in January 2016.
