The Irish European Youth Olympic Winter Festival team have returned to their homes after a Games which were deemed by all to be very successful. From the opening to closing ceremonies the sense of excitement in Brasov was palpable with large crowds packing out wonderful venues.  Praise was high for the standard of the world class venues.

From an Irish point of view the bald results at first look if they could have been somewhat better.  However, despite tricky conditions, all the Irish athletes attacked the course with 100% commitment as they all felt they were there to compete, rather than just record a finish.  Their coach Diego Schmalzl was very impressed with their attitude and the way they attacked the courses, despite the icy, rutted piste.

As well as a great team spirit amongst the Irish, there was a very evident competitive edge with everyone pushing their team mate to the limit.
