Team Ireland Chef de Mission visits the National Rowing Centre

Team Ireland Chef de Mission Kevin Kilty and OCI CEO Stephen Martin visited the National Rowing Centre in Cork to meet with High Performance Director Morten Espersen and Rowing Ireland CEO Hamish Adams.

The visit coincided with a training session at the National Rowing Centre and it afforded the opportunity for Kevin and Stephen to address the athletes and to answer questions about the OCI’s preparations for Rio 2016.

The visit also included the opportunity to see athletes training and to view the marvellous facilities of the National Rowing Centre. High Performance Coaches Don & Mary McLachlan took Kevin and Stephen through the training regime of the athletes whilst High Performance Director Morten Espersen led a meeting on the High Performance plans of Rowing Ireland.

Chef de Mission Kevin Kilty spoke of the visit “I was delighted to take Morten up on his offer to see his athletes train here at the National Rowing Centre. The dedication of the athletes and coaches is inspiring and I must commend the work of Rowing Ireland and that of Morten and Hamish in generating a squad of athletes of whom I am certain will feature strongly in Team Ireland’s performance in Rio 2016.”.

Olympic Council of Ireland CEO Stephen Martin added “ The work of Rowing Ireland here at the National Rowing Centre is exceptional and we at the OCI are working closely with the coaches and Morten to assist their work in delivering qualification for and ultimately success in Rio.
