A delegation of PD’s  led by the OCI Chief Executive Stephen Martin and Training Camp Manager Giles Warrington, will visit Rio and Uberlandia again in early October 2013 to check the proposed option with a view to negotiating training , accomodation, and the overall Team support set up for a pre Games camp in 2016.

This is a follow up to their previous visit in March 2013 to Rio, Bele Horizonte and Uberlandia which narrowed down options for pre Games and Games time strategies.

The OCI and Olympic Sports Performance Directors (PD’s) have indicatated a desire to repeat the London training camp model for a number of sports.

The OCI process has involved desk top research in 2012, consultation in 2012/13 with  Performance Directors and Rio 2016 staff.

The OCI,  have been giving PD’s and Sports Council/Institutes timely updates on the 2016 competition venue and village set up, summarizing the critical success factors for multi sport training camps based on recent London experiences, and discussing the critical timeline and operational plan for the period 2013-16.

Sports have also been encouraged to consider training and competition opportunities in 2014/15 and participation in the Rio Test Event programme 2015/16 to get to know the environment in Brazil.
