Thomas Westgaard-first podium for an Irish Cross-Country skier in an FIS race

Thomas came 3rd in the Austrian national championships on Saturday in Seefeld, the venue for next year’s Nordic Skiing World Championships.

This was a 2×7.5 km race, skiathlon where the first half is in freestyle (skate) and the second in classic. Thomas was third behind Spain’s best cross-country skier and a Bulgarian with no Austrians on the podium in their own nationals.

This is also the lowest FIS points for an Irish cross-country skier. All in all a great performance with less than 3 weeks to South Korea.
