Youth Olympic Village Opens

A total of 3,700 athletes and trainers can stay in the Olympic Village.

 

The Olympic Village, newly built for the 11th European Youth Olympic Festival, was introduced to the members of press before it hosts the athletes.

 

The Olympic Village, will be allocated for the students of Karadeniz Technical University. Zone 1 of the Olympic Village accommodates 2.350 athletes and the technical staff, while the restored dormitories accomodate 1,350.

 

The General Coordinator of EYOF 2011 Trabzon, Nihat Doker who made a speech in the opening event of the Olympic Village reminded that Trabzon gained the facilities most of which are a first for Trabzon thanks to the first Olympiad of Turkey and said, “The young people coming from Europe will stay here in the best facilities.”

 

The Mayor of Trabzon Orhan Fevzi Gümrükçüoğlu stressed that Trabzon had now a historical opportunity and fulfilled its tasks in a best way. Mr. Gümrükçüoğlu has invited the people of Trabzon to show their hospitality according to the Olympic spirit.

   

In the Olympic Village, there are a variety of facilities available to athletes such as cafeterias, internet and meeting rooms, cinema, laundry, exchange office and a main dining hall.

 

The Irish Team, who arrived for their pre Games training camp in Trabzon on Monday past, will enter the village later today.

 

European Olympic Committee President Pat Hickey will be arriving on Saturday ahead of the Opening Ceremony on Sunday 24th July 2011.
