Keane entered for Continental Cup

Ireland’s Bryan Keane is in action again this weekend as he continues his tour of the Caribbean, moving from last weekend’s race site in Cuba to the Puerto Rico Continental Cup this Sunday. While this sounds glamorous it’s far from it as the long hours of training combined with long haul flights to make for a tough stint of racing.

Keane, an Olympic Council of Ireland “Rio  Scholarship Athlete”, got his season off to a nice start last weekend where he claimed the 3rd spot on the podium in 58min 25secs for the sprint distance course, just 4 seconds off Italian triathlete Daniel Hofer in 2nd.

Sunday’s Continental Cup will be raced over Keane’s preferred Olympic Distance with a beach start leading into a 1500 meter swim, flat 40km bike followed by a relatively flat 10km run. Lining up alongside 20 competitors, Keane wears number 1 and will be targeting a second podium finish in as many weeks.

The Cork man’s season opener earned him a handsome 171 points and elevated his ranking on the ITU Points list by one place to 56th. Another good result should see him continue to climb the rankings during this all important Olympic Qualification period which runs right through to May of 2016.
