Women's Bobsleigh and Mens Skeleton qualify for Vancouver Winter Olympics

Olympic Council of Ireland CEO Stephen Martin said

“It is a massive boost to Winter sport in Ireland and bobsleigh in particular; we are proud of the support we were able to provide the team in their qualification process and congratulate the team and the National Federation for what they have achieved”

( Note: In Women’s Bobsleigh Olympic qualification allows for the larger nations to have the following crews: 3x NOC’s can have 3 crews; seven NOC’s can have 2 crews, and the remaining seven places are filled by NOC’s with 1 crew each)

More good news came when Ireland’s Pat Shannon took a qualifying spot for next month’s Vancouver Games in the Men’s Skeleton discipline.

Shannon is one of 30 athletes qualified for Mens Skeleton.

The womens bobsleigh team and Pat Shannon are supported by the Olympic Council of Ireland in terms of technical equipment and athlete scholarships.

The Olympic Council of Ireland will announce the full squad for Vancouver shortly depending on further qualification races in cross country skiing, and official confirmation by the International Ski Federation (FIS) for all ski disciplines.
