Olympic Day takes place each year on 23 June, and the Olympic Federation of Ireland will mark the occasion with a special celebration on the Sport Ireland Campus. The day is an annual moment for the global Olympic community to come together in recognition of the values that unite us: movement, friendship and the joy of sport.
This year’s event will bring together Irish Olympians, National Federation colleagues and members of the wider Olympic family for a morning of activity and connection. In support of the IOC’s Let’s Move campaign, the centrepiece of the celebration will be a friendly 3×3 basketball tournament, designed to get everyone moving and to highlight the simple power of sport to bring people together. The gathering will also include a symbolic tree planting on campus to mark our shared commitment to growth, resilience and the legacy of the Olympic Movement in Ireland.

Alongside the celebrations, this year’s Olympic Day theme highlights an important issue: the increasing number of young people stepping away from sport. Research shows that self doubt and a lack of confidence are among the biggest reasons young people disengage. As an Olympic community, we have an opportunity to help shift that trend by sharing honest stories about perseverance, belief and taking the next step, even on the difficult days.
Over the coming weeks, we will be inviting Olympians to play a role in this conversation. For now, we are simply flagging the theme and the opportunity it presents, with more details to follow soon.
We look forward to celebrating Olympic Day with our athletes, colleagues and partners, and to championing the message that movement, confidence and community belong to everyone.
