Agnes Toohey former OCI Executive Committee Member – RIP

Agnes Toohey, former Executive Committee Member, has recently passed away. She was in her mid 80’s.  Agnes had a successful career as an International Fencer and came close to selection for the Olympic Games in Rome 1960.

Agnes provided her knowledge and experience to Fencing Ireland by her service as delegate of her Federation to the OCI from 1961.  She was elected to the Executive Committee of the OCI in 1985 until the Atlanta Games in 1996.

In her professional capacity as a clothing designer she gave her expert advice to the commissioning successive Olympic Team uniforms and casual village wear over many years.

Members of the OCI kept in close contact with Agnes. She will be sadly missed by the Members of the Olympic movement in Ireland which she continued to support long after her formal service had ended.

May her gentle soul rest in peace.
