World Hockey League Round 2

Ireland’s most challenging opponents in World League Round Two in February will be India,  the only team with a world ranking that is higher in the six-team pool.

Ireland start the New Delhi tournament on February 18th against Bangladesh, at 40 in the world the second lowest ranked team in the competition. Following a rest day they play the lowest-ranked team, Fiji.

Ireland play India, ranked 11 in the world,  in the third pool match on February 21st.

Their last two matches are against Oman (36) and China (18). New coach Andrew Meredith will select his squad after this weekend’s training session in Belfast.

It’s a four-round event spread over two years and will feature more than 60 national men and women sides, over the five continents.

The top eight nations in the world come into the picture later this year.
