AIBA Pro Boxing for Ward and Joyce

The Irish light-heavy and lightweight will be in action over six, three minute AIBA Pro Boxing (APB) rounds in Sofia and Astana.

Joyce (2-0-1) meets Russian lightweight Dmitry Polyansky in Astana and Ward (2-0-1) faces Bulgarian light-heavy Spas Genov in Sofia.

Tonight’s fights will decide who the Irish pair meet in their next two APB bouts, which will be for places at Rio 2016 at APB finals, in March and April.

21 year-old Ward  is 12 years younger that the Bulgarian opponent.

Elsewhere Paddy Barnes and Michael Conlan box for Italia Thunder v Puerto Rico in the World Series of Boxing (WSB) in Palermo tomorrow.

Barnes won his first WSB fight of the season against Magomed Ibiyev of Azerbaijan earlier this month, but Conlan lost to Magomed Gurbanov.

Twenty direct places for the Rio Olympics 2016 are availbale in APB and 17 in the WSB. The highest ranked APB and WSB boxers who do not qualify directly will meet in box-offs.
