ANOC Executive Council New Offices

The newly appointed ANOC Executive Council met for the first time today in the brand new ANOC Headquarters in Lausanne to discuss the roadmap for the year ahead and beyond as they look to continue to enhance the support they provide to the NOCs. Pat Hickey, ANOC Senior Vice-President,  was in attendance and also hosted the European Olympic Committee Executive Board Meeting in the ANOC offices.

The ANOC Executive Council worked through a full agenda approving a number of key decisions including:

  • The dates for the ANOC Executive Council meetings in 2015 which will take place in Lausanne on 8 June and in Washington on 28 October.
  • The dates for the XX ANOC General Assembly and second ANOC Gala Awards Dinner in Washington which will take place between 27 October and 30 October 2015. A short presentation was given updating the ANOC Executive Council on the latest progress for the events.
  • Confirming that a committee of international experts is being assembled to work on the concept of the collaborative Beach Games to ensure that the event is sustainable and adds real value to the global sports calendar.
  • The establishment of four new programmes for 2014-2018. Two of the programmes are aimed at supporting athletes in and out of competition and two will help to disseminate international best practice amongst the world’s NOCs.
  • The ongoing work of the ANOC Commissions and Working Groups who will meet throughout the year as they implement the action plans presented to the ANOC General Assembly in Bangkok.

IOC President Thomas Bach attended the meeting and offered his congratulations to ANOC on their new headquarters. The IOC President paid tribute to the continued excellent relationship between ANOC and the IOC and thanked the NOCs under Sheikh Ahmad Al-Fahad Al-Sabah’s leadership for their contributions to, and unanimous support of, Olympic Agenda 2020.

ANOC President Sheikh Ahmad Al-Fahad Al-Sabah said:

“Today’s meeting was a fantastic way to start the New Year. It was our first meeting of 2015; the first meeting to take place in the new ANOC Headquarters; and the first meeting of the newly appointed ANOC Executive Council for 2014-2018.

“We are very excited about the year ahead and the opportunities we have to build on the momentum we have established over the last three years. Since the General Assembly in April 2012, we have shown that we are an organisation which delivers on its promises and we are committed to continuing to do so for the benefit of the NOCs and the entire Olympic Movement. We will continue to collaborate closely with the IOC under IOC President Bach’s leadership and all Olympic stakeholders to contribute towards creating a better and more sustainable future.”

The ANOC Headquarters will also hosted a European Olympic Committees (EOC) Executive Board meeting – as ANOC aims to open its doors and provide a functional ‘home away from home’ for all NOCs and Continental Associations.
