ANOC Gala Awards Washington

The Association of National Olympic Committees held their Gala Awards last night in Washington DC.   The ceremony took place at the Daughters of the American Revolution Constitution Hall.   The athletes were at the forefront of this spectacular event.  Thomas Bach, President of IOC said “The athletes are at the heart of the Olympic movement so they get the recognition they deserve. And they get it twice, first after the event on the podium when they receive their medals and tonight in a pretty different atmosphere.”

 

Pat Hickey Senior Vice President of ANOC was very proud to be presenting the prestigious award to the “Best Female Athlete of the European Games 2015 ”  Katie Taylor.    Katie is now focusing on qualifying for Rio 2015 at the AIBA women’s boxing World Championships in Kazakhstan next May.   The “Best Male” award went to Azerbaijani wrestler Togrul Asgarov (pictured).

 

Each continent had a showcase of performers at the Event and Europe’s performers were  Teeling Irish Dance Group who put on an outstanding performance.
