Pat Hickey is at the Association of National Olympic Committees (ANOC) General Assembly in Bangkok as ANOC Senior Vice President.   Topics by the ANOC leader Sheiikh Ahmad – President included the inaugural World Beach Games and Gala Awards Dinner, ANOC’s first youth commission, the opening of the ANOC headquarters in Lausanne which will take place on 19th January 2015.

Sheikh Ahmad expressed anticipation and excitement surrounding Friday evening’s inaugural Gala Awards Dinner, as Olympic athletes and NOCs will be honored for their performances in London 2012 and Sochi 2014.

“At our gala dinner, we have calculated that there will be 950 guests,” he advised regarding the Friday evening marquee event. “There will be awards presented for NOCs, athletes female and male, and also to a luminary for lifetime achievement.”

“I hope this will be a tradition for the future,”

As there was a short timeframe to launch the inaugural Gala Awards, Sheikh Ahmad informed that the criteria and winners have been determined through a joint commission comprised of international federations, ANOC members, the IOC, media and athletes during the Summer YOG in Nanjing.

The ANOC chief – who has been president of the organization since April 2012 – said that the criteria will be modified for future awards galas.

IOC president Thomas Bach attended the ANOC executive council meeting, and Sheikh Ahmad advised that there was unanimous support for the Olympic Agenda 2020 recommendations ahead of next month’s extraordinary session in Monaco
