BIOGRAPHY

Andrzej Jezierski represented Ireland in the men’s C-1 200 metres canoe sprint at the 2012 London Olympic Games, finishing 9th overall after winning the B final in a time of 44.041 seconds.

Born in Poland, Jezierski was one of the most decorated canoeists of his era, winning five World Championship medals for Poland including gold in the C-4 1000 metres in 2002 and 2005, silver in the C-1 200 metres in 2002, and bronze in the C-4 500 metres and C-4 1000 metres.

A twenty-time Polish national champion, he represented Poland until his retirement in 2005, when he moved to Ireland. Five years later he returned to training and, holding dual Polish-Irish citizenship, qualified for the London Games – giving Ireland their first competitor in Olympic canoe sprint. His B final win at the Eton Dorney rowing venue, ahead of Vadim Menkov of Uzbekistan, was Ireland’s strongest result in the discipline at those Games.
