BIOGRAPHY
Michelle Carey was a travelling reserve for the Ireland women’s hockey team at the Tokyo 2020 Olympic Games, where Ireland finished 10th.
Carey is from Dublin and attended Coláiste Íosagáin, where she played camogie and won senior A Dublin titles. She also played Gaelic football for Ballinteer St Johns, winning a Dublin Junior A championship in 2020. She came late to hockey, not having played the sport at school level, but made rapid progress after joining the senior panel.
She has a twin sister Niamh, and both represented Ireland at all underage levels together. She made her formal senior international debut at the EuroHockey Championships in Amsterdam in June 2021 – just weeks before Tokyo – and played in all five games of the tournament. She plays for UCD HC and studied engineering at University College Dublin, where she won an Irish Senior Cup in 2020.
