Andrew Boland competed in the men's K-1 canoe slalom at the 1996 Atlanta Olympic Games. Unusually, the competition was run as a striaght race, without heats or semifinals. Andrew finished in 40th spot.
From Leixlip, Co. Kildare, Boland was one of Ireland's leading slalom kayakers of the mid-1990s, winning the national chanpionships in '95 The canoe slalom events at Atlanta were held at a purpose-built Whitewater Centre on the Oocee river in Tennessee, the last time the slalom event had been staged on a natural river.
