BIOGRAPHY

Fraser Brown competed for Ireland in the men's 49er skiff at the 2004 Athens Olympic Games alongside helmsman Tom Fitzpatrick, competing on the waters off Glyfada in the Saronic Gulf.

From Newtownards, Co. Down, Brown sailed as crew to Fitzpatrick - a partnership that had worked together for over three years to qualify for the Games. Their path to Athens was one of persistence and near-misses: Ireland had come close to qualifying at the Cadiz World Championships in 2003, and at the 2004 49er World Championships in Athens four months before the Games - serving simultaneously as the last qualifying event - they were right on the cusp of gold fleet qualification, finally making it through to secure their Olympic berth.

Their campaign was coached by Ian Barker, who had won silver in the 49er at the Sydney 2000 Olympics and brought world-class expertise to the Irish programme. Brown and Fitzpatrick were part of one of Ireland's largest sailing campaigns at any Games, with Ireland fielding boats in six classes at Athens.
