BIOGRAPHY

Jeff Pamplin competed for Ireland as the driver of the two-man and four-man bobsleigh sleds at the 1998 Nagano Winter Olympics.

In the two-man event, Pamplin and brakeman Terry McHugh finished 27th. In the four-man event, the crew of Pamplin, McHugh, Simon Linscheid and Garry Power finished 30th.

Pamplin came to bobsleigh from a background as a sprinter, with a 100 metres personal best of 10.7 seconds, and was also a former youth international footballer. He was recruited to the sport by McHugh, who had watched the 1992 Albertville Winter Olympics on television and been fascinated by the Irish team's unlikely appearance. The Irish team borrowed a four-man sled from Prince Albert of Monaco, a three-time bobsleigh Olympian and longstanding supporter of the Irish programme, without whom, Pamplin noted, Ireland would not have competed in the four-man event at all.
