BIOGRAPHY

David Connolly competed for Ireland in the men's skeleton at the 2006 Turin Winter Olympics, finishing 20th.

He improved from 21st place after the first run to 20th overall, recording times of 59.97 seconds and one minute dead on the Cesana Pariol track, with a top speed of 74.9mph on his second run. A former sprinter, Connolly was identified by the Olympic Council of Ireland as a natural successor to Clifton Wrottesley following the latter's landmark fourth place at the 2002 Salt Lake City Winter Olympics. He first climbed aboard a skeleton sled four years before the Turin Games, recruited as part of a programme aimed specifically at building towards the 2010 Vancouver Winter Olympics.

He was one of a four-strong Irish team in Turin, where Wrottesley served as Chef de Mission.
