Paddy Harold rowed in the men's eight at the 1948 London Olympic Games as one of three non-UCD rowers selected to augment the core UCD crew of the composite Irish eight at Henley-on-Thames. A member of Neptune Boat Club, Harold was chosen after a series of trials with different crew combinations by coaches Ray Hickey (UCDBC) and Maurice Horan (DUBC). The composite crew was the only Irish team at those Games to be officially designated 'Ireland' in the programme. They were beaten by Canada and Portugal in the opening heat and by Norway in the repechage.
