Scott Barron was the number one ranked tennis player in Ireland in 1996, 1997, 1998 and 2000, and competed in the men's doubles at the 1996 Atlanta Olympic Games alongside Owen Casey at the Stone Mountain Tennis Center.
Barron and Casey received a wild card invitation to compete and were drawn against the second seeds, the formidable Canadian pairing of Grant Connell and Daniel Nestor, losing 6-4, 6-4.
Barron began playing tennis at the age of six, and though he played rugby on the wing for his secondary school, St Michael's College in Dublin, he chose to concentrate on tennis. His Davis Cup debut came in a qualifier against Morocco in Casablanca in July 1993, where he beat Mehdi Tahiri 7-6, 6-3. Among his most notable individual performances was a match against British player Greg Rusedski - then ranked 38th in the world - in the European team championship in Dublin in December 1995, in which Barron dropped only a single point across three successive games in the first set.
He achieved a career-best singles world ranking of 263 in March 2001 and competed in the singles qualifying rounds of both the Australian Open and Wimbledon that year.
