Badminton – Irish fall in Quarter final

Sam and Chloe Magee went out of the mixed quarter final losing to no 1 seeds Maneepong Jongjit and Sapsiree Taerattanachai of Thailand. The Magee’s started the quarter well taking the first game. The Thailand pair fought back to take a close second game. In the final game the spectators were treated to a number of long rallies with the Thailand pair coming out on top. After the mid game interval the number one seeds pulled away to win the match which lasted an hour.

Scott Evans was next of the Irish up and he also was looking to create an upset facing no 2 seed Tien Chen Chou of Chinese Taipei. Despite a large gap in the rankings between the players Evans seemed undaunted by the challenge as the game was finely balanced in the first game. Chou showed his experience winning the big points at the end of the first winning 21-19. In the second game the Chinese Taipei player looked in control as he took the match winning 21-11.

Next up for the Irish is the Brazil Open Grand Prix Gold event you can find the latest updates from the event on the Badminton Ireland website, Facebook page and by following @bad_min_ton on twitter.
