Boxing at Excel

The Olympic Boxing venue is in close proximity to the Olympic Village based at the Excel Exibition Centre.

Ireland confirmed last week that they will have a team at the pre Games test event in November 2011.

This will be a great opportunity to gain valuable knowledge in the Excel Arena prior to the main event in 2012.

Pictured above are Stephen Martin , Terry Edwards LOCOG boxing manager, and Sonia O’Sullivan being given a briefing on the venue and how it will operate at Games time.

Edwards was coach to Amir Khan at the 2004 Athens Games and knows Martin well from that time when Martin was deputy chef to team gb.

Martin said “its great to have someone of Terry’s experience involved with LOCOG , he’s aware that the boxing event will create huge interest for the Irish community in London as one of the top nations in world boxing and is looking forward to catching up with Irish boxing coaches Billy Walsh and Zaur Antia “
