Canoeist Liam Jegou’s “Road to Rio”

Ireland’s Liam Jegou claimed the silver medal in the C1 class at the International Canoe Federation Slalom Junior World Championships in Penrith, Australia in 2014 and is one of the selected Olympic Council of Ireland Olympic Scholarship athletes.Liam will be attempting to follow the path led by triple Olympian Eoin Rheinisch and make his mark in an Olympic Games in Rio 2016 and Tokyo 2020.

Jegou said

“Training has been going very well. I feel I have never trained as hard as I have now and luckily managed avoiding getting injured. Conditions were difficult. It’s been a long and cold winter. I am now fit and ready to go! In three weeks time I’ll be heading down south to start my first international race of the season, the Pyrenees Cup where i’ll be looking to put down some solid clean runs. The first big test of the season will be at the end of May 2015  in Leipzig, Germany, for the European championships”

He added

“From there on I will be competing in the World Cups in Seu, Spain and Pau, France. From Pau, I’ll join the Irish U23 team in Krakow, Poland for the U23 European Championships where I’ll be hoping to bring back a medal. London will be the most anticipated race of the season. The 2015 World Championships venue will also determine which ten Nations will be the first to qualify for the Olympics. All of my preparations will lead up to that event”.
