Sanita Puspure’s “Road to Rio”

Single sculler Sanita Puspure is a London Olympian and Olympic Council of Ireland Rio 2016 Scholarship athlete . She created Irish rowing history last year by achieving fourth place at the World Championships in Amsterdam.

As well as being a world class rower she is a wife and mother of two children making an impact in major championships and ultimately wants to qualify and perform to her best in Rio 2016.

Sanita gave us an update on her progress to date,

“The last few months of training went really well. After few setbacks during the preparation season,  I finally got to race. I was delighted to be able to compete at last set of National Trials where I had a good performance. Last weekend we had a season opening regatta in Piedeluco, Italy.

Due to illness it didn’t go too well for me. Now we’re continuing with good training here in Italy. Next big step for us is European Championships at the end of May. This is a very tough year to compete especially in the Olympic class events and women’s single sculls is considered one of the toughest.

There are only 9 boats qualifying from World Championships which will be held at the end of August in France. We are going to test ourselves in the World Cup 3 in Switzerland in July before we head to fight for qualifying places. But in the meantime- it’s a ‘one step at a time’ approach. Training hard, dreaming big…”
