Athens (GRE), Bangkok (THA), Moscow (RUS), Singapore (SIN) and Turin (ITA) were today selected by the International Olympic Committee (IOC) as Candidate Cities to host the 1st Summer Youth Olympic Games in 2010. The cities were selected unanimously from a total of nine Cities, which also included Debrecen (HUN), Guatemala City (GUA), Kuala Lumpur (MAS) and Poznan (POL).

Minister for Enterprise, Trade and Employment Micheál Martin T.D. said yesterday that world markets are key to sustained growth in the future for Irish construction firms. Martin added that the London Olympics 2012 represent a significant opportunity in this regard, with an estimated spend of £9 billion sterling on construction expected to be made in the run-up to the event.

Olympic Council of Ireland Chief Executive, Stephen Martin,was in Limerick at the weekend to deliver a 2012 Olympic seminar for 24 athletes and coaches within Swim Ireland's 2012 squad.

The 10 candidate cities for the first ever Summer Youth Olympic Games to be held in 2010 met over the last two days in Lausanne. IOC President Jacques Rogge welcomed them and expressed his satisfaction that the high number of candidate cities was “an expression of the enthusiasm with which the whole Olympic Family has responded to the IOC’s initiative to create the Youth Olympic Games on 5 July 2007”.

The Olympic Council of Ireland (OCI) today officially appointed the Marcus Evans Group as its official ticketing agency for the 2012 Olympic Games in London and the 2014 Olympic Winter Games in Sochi.

The International Olympic Committee (IOC) have announced that seven cities have been put forward by their respective National Olympic Committees (NOCs) to apply to host the Games of the XXXI Olympiad in 2016.

An IOC group, led by Hein Verbruggen – the Chairman of the IOC’s Coordination Commission for the Beijing Games, has just completed two-and-a-half weeks of observations of the Good Luck Beijing Sports Events in order to gauge the state of planning and preparations ahead of next year’s Games.

Patrick Hickey, President European Olympic Committee will attend the 119th IOC Session in Guatemala City from the 4-7th July 2007. The main decision to be taken by the IOC members will be the election of the Host City for the XXII Olympic Winter Games in 2014.
