Cian O’Connor

Cian O’Connor has put himself in with a tremendous chance of securing a medal after a clear run in the first round of the final of the individual jumping.

O’Connor was given a late reprieve this morning after Swedish rider Rolf-Goran Bengtsson’s horse Casall was withdrawn from the event.

The Irish rider had failed to qualify for the final by the narrowest of margins on Monday but was top of the reserve list.

O’Connor and the gelding Blue Loyd 12 posted a superb run to finish inside the allotted time with no faults.

The field will be reduced to 20 for the second round this afternoon where this morning’s score and the final run will be combined for an overall score to decide the medals.
