Irish diver Oliver Dingley has secured a place in the 1m Springboard Final with an impressive score of 364.95 points on the opening day of Diving at the European Aquatics Championships in London.
Olympic qualifier Dingley put in a solid performance across 6 dives to progress to this evening’s final in 6th place. A slightly off water entry in the second round pushed Dingley from 2nd place to 14th, but the 23 year old recovered well to climb back up the table of 24 divers with dives three to six.
2010 and 2012 European Champion and 2015 World Silver medallist Illya Kvasha of Ukraine scored the highest points in the morning preliminaries with 424.35. Tonight’s 1m Springboard Final takes place at 7.30pm.
Competing in his first senior international meet Jack Ffrench scored a notable 286.70 points. Coach Damian Ball commented “Jack held his nerve well at this level and only dropped 1 dive, I’m really pleased with his performance today”.
