Keane 11th in Mexico Triathlon World Cup

Bryan Keane moved closer to Olympic qualification following his 11th place finish at World Cup Huatulco in Mexico on Sunday morning.

In a race which High Performance director Tommy Evans described as the toughest on the international circuit, Keane came home 1min 15secs behind winner Eitienne Demunsch. Keane’s haul of 229 points sees him drop slightly to 53rd on the ITU Olympic Qualification List – but importantly keeps him inside the crucial top 55 athletes that will claim a place for Rio when the qualification period ends on Sunday.

Before that however Keane and his rivals for the Rio places will line out at Yokohama in what promises to be a nail biting morning. With Aileen Reid already qualified for Rio, Bryan Keane’s participation now comes down to whether he can finish ahead of his competitors in Yokohama in what will be a nail-biting straight-up battle.
