Double Silver for Irvine

Ireland’s Martyn Irvine claimed two silver medals at the Track World Cup in Glasgow at the weekend.

Irvine finished behind Olympic Omnium champion Lasse Hansen in the final of men’s individual pursuit on Saturday.

The Newtownards man’s time of 4 minutes 22.745 seconds is a new personal best.

Irvine, 27, also finished in second place in the Scratch Race behind Switzerland’s Tristan Marguet earlier on Saturday.

Irvine’s target is to return to Glasgow for the Commonwealth Games in 2014.

He competed for Northern Ireland at the Delhi Commonwealth Games and was 13th in the multi-discipline omnium event at the Olympics.

“In the Olympic Games I was 10 seconds slower,” he said after Saturday’s pursuit final.

“I am just really motivated, living like a monk, doing everything right and it has paid off.

“I would love to go sub-20 (4:20) in the worlds in February.

“I am here to see the set-up and now I have done three good rides here I am really motivated to come back and get another medal in Glasgow.”
