Dr. Louise O’Connell appointed as Medical Officer for Team Ireland in Tokyo 2020

Dr. Louise O’Connell has been appointed as Medical Officer for Team Ireland in Tokyo 2020. She steps in following the withdrawal of Dr. Suzi Clarke, for professional reasons. Dr. O’Connell will be based in the Athlete’s Village in Tokyo and will have a primary role of providing cover to the Women’s Hockey Team, as well as working with other athletes on a daily basis.

Dr. O’Connell has over 13 years of clinical experience, is a medical graduate of UCC and holds a Masters in Sports and Exercise Medicine also from UCC. She has been working in elite and high-performance sport since 2016. She works with the FAI Irish Women’s National Senior and U17 Teams and has previously worked with the Mens U21 and U19 teams. She works in League of Ireland with Shamrock Rovers and Cobh Ramblers. She was doctor for Louth GAA in the 2019/2020 season and has worked as medical officer with Sport Ireland Institute since 2019.
