The Czech Olympic Committee has been working hard for months to welcome the 50 European NOCs and their traditional guests to the 44th EOC General Assembly, to be held on 20 – 21 November in their capital city, with various side meetings scheduled starting as of today.
“We are honoured to welcome the world’s pre-eminent sports diplomats to Prague,” said Jiří Kejval, President of the Czech Olympic Committee, going on to say, “we thank the European Olympic Committees for conferring upon the Czech Republic the honour of hosting the 44th General Assembly, as recognition of the Czech Olympic Committee’s international activities over recent years. We wish the delegates a successful assembly and also a pleasant time discovering the history, culture and traditions that unite this country of ten million people in the centre of Europe.”
Prague also hosted a General Assembly of the European Olympic Committees in November 1999, and in June 2003 the city again welcomed the top representatives of the Olympic Movement when it hosted the 115th Session of the International Olympic Committee.
EOC President Patrick Hickey welcomed IOC President Thomas Bach and ANOC President Sheikh Ahmad Al-Fahad Al-Sabah, as well as many of his fellow IOC Members.
About 300 representatives from the Olympic Family will be in Prague, including IOC and NOC delegates, organisers of forthcoming Olympic Games (Rio 2016, Tokyo 2020, Beijing 2022) and the first European Games (Baku 2015), the organisers of the next Youth Olympic Games and European Youth Olympic Festivals, and delegations from the 2024 Olympic Games candidate cities (Budapest, Hamburg, Los Angeles, Paris and Rome), as well as other sports institutions.
A large number of media reps will also be in Prague for the occasion.
The last EOC Executive Committee of the year and several commission meetings are also scheduled.
