The PyeongChang 2018 Winter Olympic Games were widely regarded as a success, helping to expand the reach of winter sports in Asia.
Team Ireland’s performance at the games reflected the nation’s continued presence and development in winter sports. Ireland was represented by five athletes across four sports: alpine skiing, cross-country skiing, freestyle skiing and snowboarding. Snowboarder Seamus O'Connor achieved Ireland’s best placing, finishing 18th in the men’s halfpipe, while freestyle skier Bubba Newby placed 22nd in the men’s halfpipe. In alpine skiing, Patrick McMillan competed in the downhill, super-G and combined events, while Tess Arbez represented Ireland in the women’s giant slalom and slalom.
Cross-country skier Thomas Maloney Westgård competed in multiple events and continued to build Ireland’s profile in Nordic skiing.
